Alabamaâs Dallas Turner named 1st-team All-American by FWAA
Alabama football’s Dallas Turner was named a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, the organization announced on Monday. The news came after the Crimson Tide didn’t have a player make first-team Walter Camp All-American for the first time since 2019.
The Fort Lauderdale native was already named the SEC’s defensive player of the year and was a Walter Camp second-team All-American. He currently has nine sacks on the season, along with two forced fumbles.
Alongside Chris Braswell, Turner has given the Crimson Tide a fearsome presence coming off the edge. The Alabama defense has helped power the team to a 12-1 record and an SEC championship game win against Georgia.
“Dallas has always been a really good player for us,” Nick Saban said of Turner in September. “A guy who works hard in practice every day, tries to do everything he’s coached to do. The team is important to him, he’s been a good leader on the team.”
With Turner’s selection, Alabama has had a defensive player make first-team FWAA All-American in 15 of the past 16 seasons. The Crimson Tide has had an FWAA All-American in every year since 2008.
Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham made second-team All-American on the FWAA roster. The honor came after Latham was named first-team all-SEC by both the conference’s coaches and the Associated Press.
The FWAA is one of five All-America teams that count for unanimous All-American honor. The list also includes the AP, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Sporting News teams.
Turner, Latham and Alabama aren’t done yet. The Crimson Tide will face Michigan in the College Football Playoff’s Rose Bowl Semifinal.
That game is scheduled for Jan. 1.
